Meals on Wheels West’s staff is heartbroken for our clients, friends, and partners in Pacific Palisades impacted by this week’s devastating fire. When the fire broke out yesterday, our team immediately reached out to the fifteen clients we serve in the Palisades, urging them to evacuate for their safety. We also contacted our Palisades volunteers. And we were saddened to learn that some had suffered immense losses, including two volunteers who lost their homes. Additionally, two Meals on Wheels West board members were among those forced to evacuate.
This is a heart-wrenching time for our organization and the community we serve. We stand in solidarity with all those affected by this tragedy and extend our deepest sympathy to everyone impacted.
The fire has interrupted deliveries to 15 clients in Pacific Palisades, 7 clients in Malibu, and fewer than a dozen in Santa Monica. Deliveries will resume to the impacted clients as soon as it becomes safe. Meals on Wheels West is committed to serving our other 375+ clients. Deliveries will continue safely and uninterrupted in Venice, Marina del Rey, Del Rey, Malibu and areas of Santa Monica not under mandatory evacuation orders.
We are actively monitoring the situation and will provide updates to our clients as evacuation zones evolve. Our gratitude goes out to the courageous first responders working tirelessly on the frontlines and to our invaluable volunteers who continue to show their dedication to our community during this difficult time. Many of our volunteers are unavailable to deliver, and we are in need of additional delivery volunteers to serve. Please consider joining us to support our community.
