Monsignor Lloyd Torgerson (cont.)

Monsignor Lloyd Torgerson Enjoys Serving Our Diverse Community
(Continued from Home Page)

His role at the church is multi-faceted and has included administrative as well as traditional religious duties. There are so many aspects of his position that he appreciates, but his favorite part of the job is simply working with people.

"I especially like interacting with the high school students," he said. "It's wonderful to have a positive impact on young people at such an important time in their life."

Monsignor was born and raised in East Los Angeles, but for decades he's called Santa Monica home. In fact, besides a short move to New York in the '70s to complete a Master's degree in Religious Education, he has worked in Southern California for his entire life.

The uniqueness of his church isn't lost on Monsignor, as he fully recognizes the gifts and challenges that come along with serving a large parish. He explains, "This is an urban parish, full of diversity, which brings with it excitement."

Each year, Monsignor invites members of the parish to join him on trips to Nairobi and the Holy Land. In Nairobi, Monsignor and his fellow travelers organize and participate in infrastructure and healthcare initiatives.

Despite all of the responsibilities that come with his distinguished role, Monsignor still finds a way to make time for recreation. In the mornings, he enjoys riding his bike around the neighborhood for exercise. He also plays golf regularly with friends.

As for the future, Monsignor intends to focus more on pastoral work. Helping people is what he is most passionate about, and his aim is to continue giving back to the community for years to come.
